Harlequin copepod [Tigriopus californicus]

Description
This species is found in the upper intertidal splash pools along the Pacific coast of North America. These copepods are brightly colored, small, and have rapid movements. They are known to be highly resistant to both thermal and salinity stress. They feed on microscopic algae and detritus.
