Transverse Ark [Anadara transversa]

Description
The Transverse Ark, or Anadara transversa, is a species of ark clam indigenous to the western Atlantic ocean, from New Jersey to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. It lives in shallow waters, buried in the sand or mud. The Transverse Ark is a filter feeder, nourishing on organic particles in the water. Its shell is oval-shaped with a series of transverse ridges, and varies in color from white to gray or brown.
