Description

The Weathervane Scallop is one of the largest species of scallops, with a shell that can reach up to 15 centimeters in diameter. It is native to the northern Pacific Ocean, where it inhabits sandy or muddy substrates at depths between 20 and 200 meters. The shell is usually a dull reddish-brown, but can also be purple, or cream. The Weathervane Scallop is a popular seafood item and is commercially harvested.
