Atlantic Blood Ark [Anadara ovalis]
Description
Anadara ovalis, also known as the Atlantic Blood Ark, is a species of ark clam found in the western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from the coast of North Carolina in the USA, to the Gulf of Mexico, and south to Brazil. They live in sandy or muddy substrates in estuarine environments and are known to form dense populations. Distinguished by their oval or subcircular shape, these clams are an important food resource in some regions.
