Wedgefish [Rhinidae]
Description
The Rhinidae genus, often referred to as wedgefishes, are part of the guitarfish family. They are known for their wide, triangular-shaped bodies and heads that give them a wedge-like appearance. These fishes inhabit tropical and subtropical waters, primarily in the Indo-Pacific region. They are demersal, living close to the sea floor on sandy or muddy substrates. Rhinidae species are adapted to a benthic lifestyle, feeding on a variety of prey including fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. Their unique body shape allows them to easily burrow into the substrate for camouflage.
