Warty Sea Rods [Muricea]
Description
Muricea, known as warty sea rods, is a genus of gorgonian corals. These corals are characterized by their stiff, branching structures that are covered in small wart-like growths. They can be found in shades of brown, purple, and yellow. Muricea species typically inhabit tropical and subtropical waters, where they attach to hard substrates on the ocean floor. They are filter feeders, with polyps that extend outward to capture food particles from the surrounding water.
