Tubularia [Tubularia]
Description
Tubularia is a genus of hydroids belonging to the family Tubulariidae, known for their striking appearance and structure. These organisms form bright pink, red, or sometimes yellowish colonies that resemble miniature trees or floral arrangements. Tubularia species are characterized by their rigid, tubular stalks that anchor them to the substrate, and a crown of tentacles surrounding the mouth at the top of each stalk. These tentacles are not only used for feeding on small zooplankton but also play a role in defense and capturing prey. Tubularia can be found in a variety of marine environments, from rocky shores and reefs to mudflats.
