Torch Coral [Candycane Coral]
Description
Candycane Coral, also known by the genus name Caulastrea, is a small-polyped stony coral found in the family Euphylliidae. This genus includes species that inhabit shallow waters in the Indo-Pacific, including reefs around Australia and Fiji. Caulastrea corals are recognized for their tubular and branching growth forms, with each branch ending in a bulbous tip where the coral polyps extend from. These corals exhibit bright colors, predominantly green and brown, with fluorescent tips under certain lighting conditions. They are relatively easy to care for in aquarium settings, making them favorites among aquarists. The common name 'Candycane Coral' derives from the striped appearance of the polyps' extended tentacles.
