Thread Hydroids [Lytocarpia]
Description
Lytocarpia is known as Thread Hydroids, belonging to the family Aglaopheniidae. These hydroids are recognized for their thread-like, slender colonies. They inhabit marine environments, often attaching to rocks, algae, or coral in coastal waters. The colonies are composed of a main stem from which branch off numerous feeding polyps, each equipped with stinging cells for capturing plankton. Lytocarpia species exhibit a variety of colors, from transparent to shades of yellow and brown, contributing to their camouflage among seaweeds.
