Subarctic Cumaceans [Kempylis]
Description
Kempylis includes a group of cumaceans that are adapted to colder, subarctic marine environments. Members of this genus are recognized by their elongated bodies and the reduced size of their cephalon. They are predominantly benthic and are found on soft substrates where they play a role in nutrient cycling and act as a food source for various benthic predators.
