Stinging Cauliflower Jellyfish [Acromitoides]
Description
Acromitoides is a genus in the family Catostylidae, known for species such as the stinging cauliflower jellyfish. These jellyfish have a distinctive appearance, with a relatively small, rounded bell that resembles a cauliflower, and can reach up to 20 cm in diameter. The bell is typically opaque or slightly translucent with a textured surface. Acromitoides species possess a ring of short tentacles around the bell margin, and their sting is considered more potent than that of many other jellyfish within the Catostylidae family. They are found in various marine environments, including both tropical and temperate waters, often near coral reefs where they can be seen pulsating gracefully as they move.
