Spinetail Skate [Rostroraja]
Description
Rostroraja is a genus of skates found in the Atlantic Ocean, particularly along the western coasts of Europe and Africa, as well as in the Mediterranean Sea. They are easily identified by their elongated, pointed snouts and the presence of a spiny tail, which is a defense mechanism against predators. These skates prefer sandy or muddy substrates where they can bury themselves for camouflage. They feed on invertebrates and small fish, capturing prey with swift movements.
