Sea Whips [Leptogorgia]
Description
Leptogorgia is a genus within the Gorgoniidae family, commonly referred to as sea whips. These corals are slender and branch out into whip-like structures. They are usually found in a variety of colors, including yellow, red, and purple. Leptogorgia species are distributed in both shallow and deeper waters, where they attach to rocky substrates. The polyps of Leptogorgia species extend from the branches to capture plankton and organic matter from the water.
