Runcinella [Runcinella]
Description
Runcinella is another genus within the family Runcinidae, closely related to Runcina. These sea slugs are also small and leaf-shaped, but they are distinguishable by their more elongated bodies and the patterns on their dorsal surface. Runcinella species are benthic creatures, spending most of their lives on the seafloor, where they graze on microalgal films. Their adaptations to a benthic lifestyle include a well-developed foot for attachment to substrates and a reduced internal shell. They are found in temperate to tropical marine waters.
