Rhopilema [Rhopilema]

Description

Rhopilema is a genus of jellyfish within the family Catostylidae, notable for their large, fleshy, and often edible bells. Species within this genus, such as Rhopilema esculentum, are known for their thick, rubbery texture and are consumed in certain cultures, particularly in Asia. Rhopilema jellyfish can have a bell diameter of up to 60 cm and are characterized by their smooth, semi-transparent bells without prominent markings. They have numerous short, fringe-like tentacles around the bell's edge and long, trailing oral arms. Rhopilema species are primarily found in the Indo-Pacific region, where they inhabit coastal waters and play a role in the local marine food web.
