Description

Centroscymnus is a genus of sleeper sharks in the family Somniosidae, including species like the Portuguese dogfish (Centroscymnus coelolepis). These deep-water sharks are found worldwide in temperate and tropical seas, characterized by their long, slender bodies, and large, green eyes. They have smooth skin with small, non-overlapping scales. Centroscymnus species are known for their preference for deep-sea habitats, usually dwelling below 1000 meters, and they feed on a variety of deep-sea fishes and invertebrates.
