Pillar Corals [Dendrophyllia]

Description

Dendrophyllia is a genus of non-photosynthetic, azooxanthellate stony corals that form branching colonies resembling small trees or pillars. These corals are found in deep waters away from sunlight, relying on capturing plankton and organic matter from the water column for nutrition. Dendrophyllia species are widespread, occurring in both tropical and temperate seas, and contribute to the complexity and biodiversity of deep-sea habitats.
