Parafuniculina [Parafuniculina]
Description
Parafuniculina is a genus within the family Funiculinidae, comprising species of sea pens that exhibit particular adaptations suited to life on the ocean floor. Like their relatives, they possess a central axis from which feather-like polyps extend, functioning in both feeding and gas exchange. Parafuniculina species are distinguishable by their specific structural features and habitat preferences, often found in deeper marine environments compared to some of their relatives. They play a role in the benthic ecosystem by acting as a habitat for various small marine organisms.
