Open Brain Corals [Trachyphyllia]
Description
Trachyphyllia is a genus of large-polyped stony corals commonly known as open brain corals, due to their distinctive, fleshy appearance resembling an open human brain. These solitary or colonial corals are found in the Indo-Pacific, particularly in shallow lagoons and fore-reef environments. Trachyphyllia species display a wide variety of colors, from vivid reds and greens to more subtle hues, often with contrasting valleys that enhance their brain-like appearance. They are sought after in the aquarium trade for their striking appearance and adaptability to captive conditions.
