Mirror limpets [Lucapina]
Description
Lucapina is a genus within the Fissurellidae family, often referred to as mirror limpets due to the smooth, glossy surface of their shells, which can reflect light like a mirror. These limpets have a flattened, oval shape with a small keyhole or slit near the narrower end. They are primarily found in the eastern Pacific Ocean, inhabiting rocky shores and intertidal zones. Lucapina species are adapted to withstand strong wave action, using their muscular foot to cling tightly to the substrate. They feed by grazing on the microalgae covering the rocks.
