Metanephrops [Metanephrops]
Description
Metanephrops, commonly referred to as scampi, consists of a variety of lobster species found mostly in the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific oceans. They are benthic creatures, living on soft mud bottoms at depths ranging from shallow waters to over 1,000 meters. They are distinguished by their relatively smooth carapace and elongated, slender claws. Metanephrops species are commercially fished, with a significant portion of the catch coming from the waters around Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.
