Lobed Brain Corals [Lobophyllia]
Description
Lobophyllia is a genus of stony corals often referred to as lobed brain corals, recognized for their lobed, fleshy appearance that somewhat resembles the human brain. These corals are found in the Indo-Pacific's shallow waters, where they form large, dome-shaped colonies. The polyps of Lobophyllia are highly variable in color, with shades ranging from bright reds and greens to more subdued browns. They play a crucial role in their ecosystems, providing structure and shelter for a variety of marine life.
