Knobbed whelks [Busycon]

Description

The genus Busycon is known for the knobbed whelks, large gastropods with distinctive, heavy shells adorned with knobs or spines. These marine snails are found in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Cape Cod to northern Florida. They are predators and scavengers, feeding on a variety of marine organisms.
