Idotea [Idotea]
Description
Idotea is the most well-known genus within the Idoteidae family, encompassing a wide range of species with varied body shapes and sizes. These isopods are distinguished by their leaf-like, flattened bodies that are often green, brown, or reddish, allowing for excellent camouflage among seaweeds. Idotea species are important grazers in marine ecosystems, feeding on algae and sometimes small invertebrates, thus maintaining the balance of algal communities on rocky shores.
