Hybocodon [Hybocodon]
Description
Hybocodon is a genus within the Tubulariidae family, recognized for its unique reproductive strategy and life cycle. Species of Hybocodon are solitary hydroids with a notable feature of producing medusae from a bud located near the base of their column, rather than at the top as seen in many other hydroids. These medusae are typically released to become part of the planktonic community, where they reproduce before dying. Hybocodon species are often found attached to seaweeds or other substrates in cold to temperate marine waters.
