Homaxinella [Homaxinella]
Description
Homaxinella species are encrusting to slightly lobate sponges that are often found in deep waters, clinging to rocky substrates or coral reefs. They have a soft, velvety texture and are usually pale in color. The structure of Homaxinella is supported by a dense network of spongin fibers, occasionally interspersed with spicules, which provides flexibility and strength to the sponge body. These sponges are known for their adaptability to varying light conditions and their ability to filter large quantities of water to capture food particles.
