Helmet Shells [Cassis]
Description
Cassis is a genus of large sea snails, commonly known as helmet shells due to their distinctive, heavy, and often large helmet-like shape. Representatives of this genus are characterized by their thick shells with a broad, round body whorl, and a short spire. The aperture is large with a pronounced lip, often with teeth or ridges. These snails are found in tropical and subtropical seas, where they inhabit sandy and muddy bottoms, feeding mainly on echinoderms.
