Greenland Shark [Somniosus]

Description

Somniosus is a genus within the family Somniosidae, known for including some of the most cold-adapted species such as the Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus), one of the largest living species of shark. These sharks are characterized by their slow-moving, deep-sea lifestyle, often found in Arctic and North Atlantic waters. They have long, cylindrical bodies with small heads and eyes, and their diet is varied, including fish, seals, and even marine mammals. The Greenland shark is particularly noted for its extremely slow growth rate and long lifespan, potentially reaching over 400 years.
