Description

Grantia is a genus within the Grantiidae family, consisting of calcareous sponges that exhibit a simple, cylindrical or slightly branched form. These sponges are characterized by their tube-like structure, which ends in an osculum at the top. The body is supported by a framework of calcium carbonate spicules, unique to each species. Grantia sponges are found in a variety of marine settings from tidal zones to deeper waters. They are filter feeders, capturing food particles from the water that flows through their porous bodies.
