Galathowenia [Galathowenia]
Description
Galathowenia is a genus within the family Oweniidae, known for its marine polychaete worms. These worms are tube-dwellers similar to members of the genus Owenia but are distinguished by certain morphological characteristics, including the structure of their operculum and the arrangement of their bristles and tentacles. Galathowenia species are found in marine environments where they inhabit the sediment, constructing tubes out of particles found in their surroundings. These organisms are filter feeders, using their tentacles to capture food particles suspended in the water. Their presence in marine sediments indicates a healthy benthic environment, as they contribute to sediment stability and nutrient cycling.
