Galathowenia [Galathowenia]
Description
Galathowenia is a genus within the family Oweniidae, comprising marine polychaete worms that are lesser-known compared to their relatives in the genus Owenia. These worms also construct tubes in the marine sediment, similar to Owenia, but they are distinguished by subtle differences in their morphological characteristics, such as the arrangement and structure of their tentacles and segments. Galathowenia species are found in a variety of marine environments, where they contribute to the complexity and stability of the benthic habitats. They are important detritivores, feeding on organic particles they gather from the surrounding water and sediment.
