Frog Shells [Bathygalea]
Description
Bathygalea, commonly known as frog shells, comprises a group of deep-sea snails with moderately sized, robust shells. The shells are characterized by their thick, often darkly colored exteriors, and a globular shape with a short, sometimes almost hidden spire. The aperture is wide, leading to a deep interior. Bathygalea species are adapted to life in deep oceanic environments, where they are assumed to prey on a variety of deep-sea invertebrates.
