Frog Shells [Ranella]
Description
Ranella is a genus within the family Ranellidae, known colloquially as frog shells due to their bumpy, warty surface that resembles the skin of a frog. These marine gastropods possess a medium to large-sized shell, often with a strong spiral sculpture and a distinctive varix (a thickened, often raised area of the shell) at regular intervals, which adds to their frog-like appearance. They inhabit a variety of marine environments, from shallow waters to deeper seas, and are carnivorous, feeding on a diet of echinoderms, bivalves, and other mollusks.
