Description

Oceanodroma is a genus of storm petrels that includes species such as the Fork-tailed Storm Petrel and the Leach's Storm Petrel. These birds are small, with forked tails and long, pointed wings, adapted for dynamic soaring over the ocean. They feed on surface zooplankton and small fish, often following ships to catch disturbed prey. Oceanodroma species nest in burrows or crevices on isolated islands, exhibiting strong philopatry to their natal breeding sites.
