Fiona [Fiona]
Description
Fiona is a genus of sea slugs, specifically aeolid nudibranchs, which are part of the family Fionidae. These marine gastropod mollusks are known for their slender, elongated bodies and distinct cerata that extend from their backs. Inhabitants of this genus are pelagic, often found floating or swimming in open water, unlike many other nudibranchs that are benthic. They feed on floating hydroids and have a cosmopolitan distribution, found in oceans worldwide. Fiona species are unique in their ability to incorporate and utilize the nematocysts (stinging cells) from their prey for their own defense.
