Diplocirrus [Diplocirrus]
Description
Diplocirrus genus members are easily recognized by their fluffy appearance, due to numerous fine setae covering their bodies. These marine worms are part of the Flabelligeridae family and inhabit soft sediments, often in muddy or sandy environments. They are detritivores, feeding on organic particles they collect from the substrate. Some species construct mucus-lined burrows, which serve as both home and trap for food particles. Their presence in the sediment plays a significant role in nutrient cycling and aeration of the sea floor.
