Diminutive augers [Punctoterebra]
Description
Punctoterebra is a genus recognized for its small-sized, elongate shells among the Terebridae family. These diminutive augers feature a series of fine, closely spaced punctuations along their spiral whorls, which contribute to their name and distinguish them from other genera. Inhabiting shallow to moderately deep marine environments, they are found across tropical and subtropical regions. Punctoterebra species are predatory, feeding on minute invertebrates through the use of a venomous proboscis, and are known for their ability to adapt to various sediment types for burrowing.
