Deepsea Goosefishes [Sladenia]
Description
Sladenia encompasses a group of deepsea goosefishes found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. These species inhabit deep waters and are less known than their shallow-water relatives. They share the characteristic angler adaptation, possessing a lure for attracting prey in the dark depths. Sladenia species differ in their deep-sea adaptations, including bioluminescence in some cases, and have a more elongated body shape compared to other members of the family Lophiidae.
