Crested Ibis [Nipponia]
Description
Nipponia nippon, commonly known as the Crested Ibis, is the sole species in the genus Nipponia. Once widespread across parts of Russia, China, and Japan, its numbers have drastically declined, leading to its current status as endangered. The Crested Ibis is distinctive for its bright red face and legs, contrasting with its white body, and the crest of feathers on its head. It inhabits wetlands, where it feeds on a variety of aquatic animals and insects. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect and rebuild populations of this iconic species.
