Description

Craspedochiton is a genus within the family Ischnochitonidae, notable for its species' thick and robust girdle that often overlaps the dorsal plates. This characteristic provides an added layer of protection and aids in water retention, allowing these chitons to survive in exposed conditions such as wave-swept rocky shores. The dorsal plates are heavily sculptured, adding to their rugged appearance. Craspedochiton species are versatile feeders, consuming a diet of algae and detritus.
