Common Sea Nettles [Chrysaora]
Description
Chrysaora is a genus of sea nettles, comprising numerous species of jellyfish known for their striking appearance and potent sting. These marine creatures are characterized by their large, colorful bell-shaped bodies, which can span up to 1 meter in diameter in some species. The bell pulsates to provide propulsion through the water. Hanging from the bell are long, trailing tentacles and oral arms, which the jellyfish use to capture prey and defend against predators. Chrysaora species are found in oceans worldwide, from tropical to temperate waters, often near the coast. They play a significant role in marine ecosystems, both as predators of smaller zooplankton and as prey for larger marine animals.
