Chinese Sturgeons [Huso]
Description
Huso is a genus of large sturgeons native to Russia and China, particularly known for the critically endangered Beluga (Huso huso) and the Kaluga (Huso dauricus). These species are anadromous, spending parts of their life cycle in both freshwater and marine environments. They are characterized by their massive size, with the Beluga sturgeon known to reach lengths of over 7 meters and weights of over 1,000 kilograms, making it one of the largest freshwater fish. The genus is of significant ecological importance due to its role in the ecosystem and is also highly valued for the production of caviar.
