Bubble Corals [Physogyra]
Description
Physogyra, commonly known as bubble corals, is a genus distinguished by its unique, bubble-like appearance when its polyps are expanded. These corals are found in Indo-Pacific reefs, often in areas with moderate to low light and water movement. Physogyra species are adaptable and can thrive in various environments, from shallow lagoons to deeper reef slopes. They form large, dome-shaped colonies that provide shelter for small fish and invertebrates. The polyps retract during the day, revealing a hard, protective skeleton that contributes to reef-building.
