Broad-billed Prions [Pachyptila]
Description
Pachyptila includes several species known collectively as prions, with the Broad-billed Prion being one of them. These birds are small to medium-sized with a unique bill structure that is broad and flattened, containing fine lamellae used for filtering plankton from the water. Prions are pelagic, spending most of their life at sea, and breed in colonies on islands in the Southern Ocean. Their diet mainly consists of small crustaceans and other marine invertebrates.
