Branching Hammer Coral [Euphyllia]
Description
Euphyllia is a genus of large-polyped stony corals in the family Euphylliidae. The corals from this genus are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, especially around the Great Barrier Reef and the Red Sea. They are known for their distinctive hammer- or anchor-shaped tentacles, which are often extended during the day. Euphyllia species are popular in reef aquariums due to their attractive appearance and the movement of their tentacles in the water current. They exhibit a variety of colors, including green, brown, and tan. These corals are symbiotic, hosting zooxanthellae in their tissues, which help in photosynthesis and provide the corals with nutrients.
