Bare-faced Ibis [Phimosus]

Description

The genus Phimosus includes a single species, the Bare-faced Ibis, Phimosus infuscatus. This bird is characterized by its lack of feathers on its face, exposing bare, dark skin. It has a predominantly dark plumage with shades of green and purple. The Bare-faced Ibis is found in a variety of wetland habitats throughout South America, from Colombia and Venezuela to northern Argentina. It feeds on insects, small fish, and crustaceans, foraging in shallow waters or muddy fields, often in the company of other wading birds.
