Description

Antipathes is a genus of black corals in the family Antipathidae, commonly known as thorn corals. Species in this genus are characterized by their tree-like appearance, with a central axis from which branches and sub-branches extend. The corals are found in a range of marine environments from shallow to deep waters across the globe. They provide habitat for many marine species and are known for their dark, skeletal structures composed of a proteinaceous material called antipathin.
