Antarctic Petrels [Thalassoica]
Description
Thalassoica includes the Antarctic Petrel as its sole representative. This genus is characterized by its medium size, dark brown plumage, and white belly and wings' underside. Antarctic Petrels are highly adapted to the cold conditions of the Southern Ocean. They breed on the Antarctic continent and islands, nesting in colonies on cliffs. Their diet primarily consists of krill and other small sea creatures.
