Annulated Sea Snakes [Hydrophis]
Description
Hydrophis is the largest genus within the family Hydrophiidae, encompassing a wide variety of species commonly referred to as annulated sea snakes. These snakes are characterized by their highly venomous bite, adapted for their mostly piscivorous diet. They inhabit a range of marine environments across the Indo-Pacific region. Members of this genus are distinguished by their compressed, paddle-like tails that aid in swimming, and their ability to breathe through their skin partially, which is an adaptation for their aquatic lifestyle.
