White Tanaids [Tanaopsidae]
Description
Tanaopsidae, or white tanaids, are a family within the order Tanaidacea distinguished by their pale or translucent bodies, which help them blend into their sandy environments. They are small, benthic crustaceans found in both shallow and deep marine habitats, where they burrow into the substrate. Tanaopsidae feed primarily on microorganisms and detritus, playing a role in the benthic food web and nutrient cycling.
